The Carel du Toit Centre, where deaf children learn to speak, does amazing work to instill confidence in their learners to function in normal society.

The Carel du Toit Centre was established in 1973 by Professor Carel du Toit.

It started as non-racial centre which formed an integral part of the ear, nose and throat department at the Tygerberg Academic Hospital complex at the University of Stellenbosch .

Footgear is the proud sponsor of the annual Carel du Toit fun run.

We have pledged R50 000 for 2009.

We care FOOTGEAR INSPIRATION

Achmat Hassiem, aged 26 years, cannot be called a shark attack victim. He can be called a survivor. This young man was attacked by a shark at Fish Hoek/Muizenberg in the prime of his life, when sport meant absolutely everything to him. His positivity, family and friends have spurred him on to compete in the Para-Olympics in Beijing in 2008. Sharing a room with Oscar Pistorius and getting to know Natalie du Toit are recorded as highlights in his life. Speaking to young South Africans about attitude and making your dreams a reality, is the other. This dynamic young man is now training for both the next Para-Olympics and the able-bodied Olympics.

His drive and determination have secured him a brand ambassadorship from retail footwear specialists, Footgear, who have two stores in the Western Cape (Willowbridge) and Access Park . His sponsorship was announced at the re-launch of the Access Park store, which doubled in size recently. In addition to a cash sponsorship, Achmat will be trained in public speaking and life skills.
